# Indonesia Visa on Arrival

Visa rule, Indonesia. Page: https://usecountr.com/trackers/visa-id-voa/

## Summary

The Indonesia Visa on Arrival gives a stay of up to 30 days, counted from the date you arrive. You can extend it one time, to a total stay of 60 days. It is a single-entry visa: when you leave Indonesia it ends, and a new arrival needs a new visa and starts a new 30 days. You can buy it at the airport or online before you travel as an e-VOA, for 500,000 rupiah. It covers tourism, family visits, meetings and transit, and it does not allow paid work. The Directorate General of Immigration runs the rule.

- Limit: 30 days for each entry
- With one extension: 60 days in total
- Period: From the date of arrival
- A day counts when: You are in Indonesia for any part of it, starting with the arrival day
- Official fee: 500,000 rupiah for 30 days
- Run by: Directorate General of Immigration (Direktorat Jenderal Imigrasi)

## Who it applies to

- Holiday travellers to Bali, Lombok, Java and other islands whose country is on the Visa on Arrival list.
- Visitors who want to stay a second month and need to know when and how to extend.
- Short-term business visitors who come for meetings, conventions or exhibitions.
- Travellers who pass through Indonesia on the way to another country.
- Long-stay visitors who leave for Singapore or Malaysia and return on a new Visa on Arrival.

## The rule

The Directorate General of Immigration lists the Visa on Arrival under the code B1. Its official description says that you may stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 30 days, counted from the date of arrival. You can get the visa at the immigration counter when you land, or apply online before you travel. The online form is called the e-VOA. Both give the same stay. The official e-VOA site lists the countries whose citizens can use it.

The stay can be extended one time, up to a total stay of 60 days. Holders of an e-VOA can ask for the extension online through the official e-visa site. Holders of a visa bought at the counter go to the immigration office nearest to where they are staying. After day 60 there is no further extension on this visa, and you must leave Indonesia.

The Visa on Arrival is valid for one entry. It allows tourism, visits to family, meetings, incentive trips, conventions and exhibitions, and transit to another country. You must not sell goods or services and must not receive payment for work in Indonesia. To get the visa you need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months and a ticket to return home or to travel on to another country.

For a longer holiday there is a different visa, the C1 tourist visa. It gives 60 days from arrival and can be extended several times up to 180 days. An immigration officer decides on each entry and each extension and can ask about your plans and your money for the stay.

Why it exists: Tourism is a large part of Indonesia's economy, and the Visa on Arrival lets visitors from many countries enter without applying at an embassy. The fee gives the state income from each visit. The limit of 30 days, with one extension, keeps the visa for short trips. People who want to stay for months, or who come to work, are sent to visas where the purpose and the means of the visitor are checked before they travel.

## Counting the days

You count the days of one stay in Indonesia from the date you arrive. Any part of a day in Indonesia is one day.

1. Take the arrival date in your passport stamp or e-VOA record as day 1.
2. Count forward to day 30. That is the last day of your stay without an extension.
3. If you want to stay longer, apply for the extension some days before day 30, online for an e-VOA or at an immigration office.
4. When the extension is approved, count to day 60 from the arrival date. That is your new last day.
5. Leave Indonesia on or before your last day. A new arrival later starts a new count at day 1.

How Countr counts it: Countr counts any part of a day in Indonesia as one day and counts each stay on its own. You choose the limit: 30 days for a stay without an extension, or 60 days after your extension is approved. Countr does not know by itself that you extended, so change the tracker to 60 days when you do. The arrival day is day 1, as in the official description. Countr only counts days the phone can see. If your photos or location history have large gaps, the app can show fewer days than you really stayed.

## Examples

### A 30-day holiday

Nina, an Austrian citizen, lands in Bali on 5 July 2026 with an e-VOA. Counting 5 July as day 1, day 30 is 3 August 2026. She flies home on 2 August and is inside the limit with one day to spare.

### One extension to 60 days

Ben, an Australian citizen, also arrives on 5 July 2026 and decides to stay longer. He applies for the extension online on 27 July, before his first 30 days end on 3 August. With the extension his total stay can be 60 days from arrival, so his last day is 2 September 2026. He cannot extend a second time.

### The trap: counting a month and not 30 days

Julia arrives on 5 July 2026 and books her flight home for 5 August, thinking of one month. July has 31 days, so 5 August is day 32 of her stay. Her 30 days ended on 3 August, and she has overstayed by 2 days. She has to settle the overstay with immigration at the airport before she can leave.

## Exceptions

- The stay can be extended one time, to a total of 60 days. No second extension exists for this visa.
- Only citizens of the countries on the official Visa on Arrival list can use it. Others must apply for a visa before they travel.
- The C1 tourist visa is a different visa: 60 days from arrival, with extensions up to 180 days.
- The D2 business visa is for people who come often: many entries, 60 days for each stay.
- Citizens of some neighbouring countries can enter Indonesia without any visa under a separate visa-free arrangement, with its own conditions.

## Common misconceptions

- "The Visa on Arrival is good for one month." It is good for 30 days counted from the arrival date. In a month with 31 days, the same date in the next month is already too late.
- "I can extend the Visa on Arrival again and again." No. It can be extended one time only, and the total stay is 60 days at most.
- "The e-VOA gives a longer stay than the visa at the airport." No. Both give 30 days. The difference is that you apply and pay for the e-VOA before you travel and can extend it online.
- "I can use the same Visa on Arrival for a second trip if I still have days left." No. It is a single-entry visa. When you leave Indonesia it ends, and you need a new one for the next arrival.

## Questions and answers

### Does the day I arrive count as the first of the 30 days?

Yes. The stay is counted from the date of arrival, so the arrival date is day 1. If you land on 5 July, day 30 is 3 August.

### What happens if I overstay my Visa on Arrival?

An overstay is a breach of Indonesian immigration law. A fine is charged for each day of a short overstay and is paid before you leave. A longer overstay can lead to deportation and a ban on returning.

### Does a trip to Singapore give me a new 30 days in Indonesia?

Yes, if you are admitted again. Each arrival needs a new Visa on Arrival with a new fee and starts a new 30 days. The officer can refuse a person who appears to live in Indonesia on repeated tourist visas.

### Where do I extend a Visa on Arrival?

If you hold an e-VOA, you can extend online through the official e-visa site. If you bought the visa at the counter on arrival, go to the immigration office nearest to your address in Indonesia.

### Can I work remotely or take a job on a Visa on Arrival?

The visa does not allow you to sell goods or services or to be paid for work in Indonesia. It is for tourism, family visits, meetings, conventions and transit.

### When is the 60-day tourist visa a better choice?

When you already know that you want to stay longer than 60 days, or want 60 days without visiting an office. The C1 tourist visa gives 60 days from arrival and can be extended up to 180 days, but you must apply before you travel.
